"Who Da Man?"

Archive for the ‘News.’ Category

I’m moving!

Now don’t get worried, this is only for improvements, in fact, it’s already been quite helpful. I wouldn’t blame you if you’re wondering what ‘It’ is, given the complete lack of information! The ‘It’ in question is not in fact a disembodied walking hand, it’s the fact that I’ve registered a domain. That’s right, Who Is The Man can now be found at www.whoisthemanpodcast.com, there’s no .Wordpress.com needed.

This blog will stay up, but the main activity will happen at the new website. Everything will be just like normal (well, as close to normal as I can get), just somewhere else.

Doctor Who Season 7 UK and US/BBC and BBC America air dates and trailers

So we’ve had the air dates confirmed for the first episode of season 7 – Asylum of The Daleks – on the BBC and BBC America. UK residents (rightly so, I’m sure they’d say) will see it on BBC1 on September the 1st at 7.20pm. Those of you in America will be able to see the episode at the same time of evening but a week later on the 8th. Sadly for we poor Australians the ABC hasn’t confirmed an air date. It’ll most likely be the 8th too, which means we’ll have to avoid spoiler even harder (#FirstWorldProblems).

Anyway, to keep the excited juices flowing, enjoy these trailers for the up coming episodes:

P.S if you wouldn’t mind tuning into the podcast where I’ll review the episodes once I’ve seen them. Oh, and until the episodes get here I’m review season 1, I’m doing Dalek, let me know your thoughts by sending them to whoisthemanpodcast@hotmail.com.

Coming Soon… YouTube!

No I’m not going to pretend that I invented YouTube, it’s just that there’s going to be some videos from me soon!

I may copy (rip-off) the cool guys and gals (well, gal) at The Omega Podcast and do some video episodes, and some audio episodes. The video episodes might – if I can figure out this video making beeswax – contain short (I’ll do my best) movie reviews, or book recommendations and the like and maybe  more.

So not only will you be able to find the show and things related to it on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/134244883285845/

But you’ll also be able to find me on YouTube.

Doctor Who on iView

While ABC2 is showing all 6 seasons of New Who they also have the episodes on iView, for those of us who don’t have the DVDs to enjoy them again (well, for a bit).

They have the 2010 Christmas Special – The Doctor, The Widow, and The Wardrobe – up there for your view pleasure (depending on your thoughts): http://www.abc.net.au/iview/#/view/873253

There is also the 2010 and Christmas Special, A Christmas Carol available: http://www.abc.net.au/iview/#/view/691961

There is also the 2009 Special, The Next Doctor: http://www.abc.net.au/iview/#/view/331120

I’m guessing the Marathon will be on there eventually.

Also, for older viewers they have Torchwood season 1: http://www.abc.net.au/iview/#/view/391012

ABC2 Doctor Who tweet along.

“Fantastic!” Doctor Who is back for Aussie viewers! Every Monday to Friday at 7:30 pm starting tonight (as I type) they’re showing all of New Who from the start. Now, if you have Twitter and can use it while you’re watching, tweet your opinions to the show; @WhoITMPodcast or use the hash-tag #WhoIsTheMan, or use the name of the episode as a hash-tag, and I’ll read ’em out!

So, tomorrow night use #TheEndOfTheWorld and #WhoIsTheMan as the Hash-tag so I can find them easily and I’ll read them out, I’ll make a collection each week of tweets about each episode have them by the end of the week on the podcast.

Doctor Who Symphonic (hugely) Spectacular update

Apart from the fact the tickets are now available (link to where you can buy them can be found in a previous article: https://whoisthemancast.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=448&action=edit) there also the brilliant news that Mark Sheppard – or very own Canton Delaware The Third, or be it the younger version) – is going to be hosting it.

So the package is, Ben Foster coming Down Under (for his first time) to conduct the Melbourne Symphonic Orchestra who will play the Doctor Who season 6 music all hosted buy the wonder Mark Sheppard. Time, if you haven’t, to get those tickets me thinks!

Australia to get it’s own Doctor Who Proms

Well, it’s called a Doctor Who Symphony Spectacular, most likely a marketing name, it works though, it’s got me extremely excited! What this will be is Ben Foster, for those who don’t know – what’s wrong with you – Ben has Composed for Torchwood, working with Murray Gold for the first 2 seasons and then working on his own for Children Of Earth. He’s also the Arranger & Conductor for Doctor Who, he’s conducting the Orchestra while Murray’s on Skype giving them notes, when that happens of course, coming to Australia, Victoria aka my part of town – or just off, he’s going to Melbourne, but that’s just three hours drive away – and he’ll conduct the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (who I saw in action with the brilliant & funny Tim Minchin at the The Palais theatre, Melbourne (obviously), you can see my thoughts on that here:  http://rhysparton.wordpress.com/2011/02/28/my-great-weekend/.

It’s pretty much the Doctor Who Proms, with people in Monster/Villian/Creature costume, a big screen with clips & montages from the show (mainly the two latest seasons), and maybe some special lighting effects, or am I thinking Doctor Who Live? Or a mic of both? Anyway to quote the article on The Doctor Who Website:

“Philip Murphy, Managing Director of BBC Worldwide Live Events said: “We’re thrilled to be bringing a live show to Australia’s legion of Doctor Who fans and especially to be premiering a new event with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.”

“Doctor Who has an appeal that crosses the generations,” said the MSO’s Managing Director Matthew VanBesien. “This is a great opportunity for people of all ages to hear a full symphony orchestra as part of a unique and exciting entertainment concept.”

So it’s brilliant that something Who related is breaking some  records in Australia. 1. the first time an Orchestra here has (officially at least) have played something like this & 2. The first time that a Doctor Who live event has been staged by BBC Worldwide outside the UK.

The  dates are Saturday the 4th of February 2012 at 2pm and 7pm

Venue: Plenary Hall, Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre, Victoria, Australia

Tickets: From AUD$ 49 (50 pretty much…) to book in Australia call – 13 61 00 or visit http://www.mso.com.au

I’ll be there! I hope to see you! 🙂

If I can I will try & get my hands on a portable mic so I can record bits,at the place (not parts of the show, copyright…) for the podcast, so if your a fan (of the podcast…obviously, not who itself), try & find me! You’ll probably roconigse me, I’ll most likely be dressed up as The Eleventh Doctor (he’s says in Winter when wearing that isn’t too hot), so keep your eyes out for me.
